International symposium on zinl and lead has been held on the regular basis for more than 30 years with periodicity of 5 years: Lead-Zinc '70 in Saint Luise (USA), Lead-Zinc=Tin '80 in Las Vegas (USA), Zinc '85 in Tokio (Japan), Lead-Zinc '90 in Annakhaim (USA), Zinc & Lead '95 in Sendai (Japan), Zinc and Lead Processing in Kalgary (Canada), Lead-Zinc 2000 in Pitsburg (USA), Lead & Zinc '05 in Kioto (Japan) and now in three years time in Kapetown (RSA). The given symposium continues traditions and represents international forum for zink and lead production and working, at which the leading specialists will exchange experience and new technologies on initial and secondary working of zink and lead. Along with the general problems of production consideration, attention will be paid to environment questions. Extensive survey will be made of metal using in galvanics, accumulators and of such questions of mining as acid water drainage and collection and recycling of wastes. Special attention will be paid to the questions of energy saving technologies application which work in harmony with the environment. Several social events are planned which will make it possible to carry out discussions informally and establish friendly relations among the delegates of the symposium. After the conference a number of plants visitings are planned among which are Zincor and Fry's Metals in RSA and Skorpion Zinc and Rosh Pinah in Namibia. Symposium is organized by Mining Metal Institute of RSA SAIMM in cooperation with the international organizations: TMS, GDMB, CIM Metsoc, etc.
