The Ministry Task and Objectives
Ever since the creation of the Federal Republic of Germany, a slated goal of the Federal Ministry of Economics (Bundesministerium fuer Wirtschaft = BMWi) has been the further development of the sociat market economy. With this in mind, the Ministry creates the framework conditions for companies, consumers, and the parties to the collective bargaining process. These framework conditions provide the basis for a sound economic foundation with the broad involvement of private mdividuals. The strengthening of market forces and the fostering of competition guarantee stable prices now and in the future.
The BMWi's responsibilities have expanded with the economic development of the country, with German reunification, and with the new global challenges.

- Market liberalisation and privatization
- Safeguarding and strengthening Germany is a place to do business, and the completion of German unification
- Strengthening small an mid-size business and free enterprise
Coordination of the federal government's policy of European integration and moving forward along that track
- Removal of barriers to international trade and further development of the principle of free trade
- Further development of environmental protection and energy policy by stressing market elements.
