Status: a city of regional subordination, the Moscow Region, Science Town.
It is situated on the Central Russian upland, on the Moskva River, 32 km
south-east of Moscow.

Economy.
Today Zhukovsky is the center of the Russian aircraft science. Here located:
- Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) n.a. Professor N.Ye. Zhukovsky
- Flight Research Institute n.a. Gromov. It is planned to form on the territory
of the institute the General Headquarters of the United Aircraftbuilding Corporation
(UAC) in the course of the several upcoming years
- Scientific and Research Institute of Instrument Making n.a. V.V. Tikhomirov
- Moscow Scientific and Research Institute "Agate"
- Scientific and Research Institute of Aviation Equipment
- Experimental Machine-building Plant n.a. V. Myasishchev
There are also machine-building, woodworking plants in the city; a plant of
wiring work parts.
Food industry - plants of the companies "Inko", Nestle.
Culture.
Museums: Zhukovsky Town Museum; of the History of Sky Conquest - shows
the development history of aviation, aeronautics and aircraft science, from the
first human attempts to fly and up to the present time. The museum visitors can
feel themselves pilots sitting in a catapult seat of the jet fighter wearing a flight
helmet; and also study how to fly a plane on the aviasimulator in the cockpit mockup of the IL-2 atack plane.
Theatres: "Strela", Theatre of Aisin.
3.5 km north-east of Zhukovsky there is a complex of the former
Bykovo country estate.
