left bank of Kliazma river, in 190 km. from Moscow.

Landmarks of Vladimir-Suzdal school of architecture of the 12th century:
the Cathedral of the Assumption (1158-60, rebuilt after fire in 1185-89),
Dmitry Cathedral (1194-97), fortress Golden Gates (1158-64, rebuilt in the
17th-18th centuries) with the gate church (renovated in 1469, rebuilt in 1810).
In 10 km. to the north-west from Vladimir, in Bogolubovo settlement - the remnants
of the former residence of the prince Andrey Bogolubsky (1158-65), monastery
buildings and churches of the 18th-19th centuries. In 1,5 km. from Bogolubovo,
in the picturesque flood plain of Nerl river there is a white stone church
of Pokrove on Nerl (1165).
