It is situated in the Northern Caucasia, 1923 km south of
Moscow, on the both banks of the Terek River, on the Ossetian plane, 30 km
of Daryal Pass from which the Terek River flushes in torrent from the
Caucasian mountains to the plain.

Industry is presented by food and light industry, mechanical
engineering enterprises, non-ferrous metallurgy etc.
Among the largest industrial enterprises are:
