The city is situated on the left bank of Volga river (Saratov Water Storage Pond), in its middle stream, at the cross water of Volaga and Samara rivers, in 1098 km. to the east from Moscow.

At present Samara is the biggest center of machinebuilding and metalworking as well as space and aircraft industry.
