Information about the city of Kaliningrad
Status: a city of regional subordination, the administrative center of the Kaliningrad Region.
It is situated on the Primorskaya (coastal) lowland, on the banks of the Pregolya
River, near its inflow into the Kaliningrad bay, 1289 km west of Moscow.
The port (non-freezing) is connected with the Baltic Sea by a deep channel
(up to Baltiysk town). There are climatic seaside resorts as Svetlogorsk, Otradnoye,
Zelenogradsk, Pionersky near the city.

Economy.
The main natural wealth of the region is amber.
Kaliningrad Amber Integrated Plant (Yantarny settlement) produces over 350
item names of amber.
The region has a small "Kravtsovskoye" oil deposit.
Leading industry branches:
Mechanical engineering and metalworking (plants: shipbuilding-shiprepairing plant "Yantar", "Vagonostroitel",
"Electrosvarka", auto aggregates, "Stroydormash", for production of shipboard
and fish processing equipment, industrial machines, car building enterprise
"Avtotor"). Paper and pulp, food (mainly fish and canned fish) and light industry.
Kaliningrad is a big center of fishery and fishing industry. Trawler, refrigerated cargo
and also tuna catching fleets are based here.
Oil terminals located in the aquatory of Kaliningrad sea channel, provide
export of more than 2 million tons of oil products a year from Russia into Western Europe and
Scandinavian countries.
Agriculture for the most part is a dairy production.
Culture.
Theatres: Legitimate Drama Theatre, Musical Theatre on Basseinaya, Puppet Theatre, Young Spectator's Theatre "Molodezhny".

Museums: History and Arts Museum, Amber Museum, World's Ocean Museum,
Picture Gallery, Fortification Museum, Museum of "Found Articles" (ancient articles, found by lakes cleaning, houses building).
Botanical garden. The zoo.
Sights: Cathedral church, city gates, monument to F Shiller, Kant's
grave, Konigsberg House of Technics, Orthodox Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.
