The town is situated in the south of the Stavropol Hill, on the height of 650 m,
in the valley of the Podkumok River, north of the Rocky Range foothill of
the Big Caucasus, 213 km south-east of Stavropol.
Economy.
There are flavoring industry enterprises in the town:
cannery, dairy plant, brewery, meat processing plant etc. Knitting mill,
clothes and shoe factory.

The oldest architectural monument of Essentuki is the wooden St. Nicholas' Church.
The extensive Kurortny (Glavny) Park: buildings of the drinking gallery, the Nikolayevskiye (the present
Verkhnie) baths, the Commercial Gallery, "Oreanda" the wooden observation pavilion with colonnade, 4 pavilions
above drinking well-rooms.
Essentuki is considered to be the largest and most popular drinking water
and balneotherapeutic health resort in Russia, where gastrointestinal tract disturbances,
liver and metabolism disturbances are treated. The are more than 20 mineral wells as resort remedies
("Essentuki-4", "Essentuki-17", "Essentuki-novaya").
The town has vast resort parks - Lechebny (lower) and Pobeda park (upper).
There are mineral water wells in the parks, many medical institutions,
Terrainkur routes are marked.
Sulphide mud of Lake Tambukansky is also used medicinally.
