Information about the city of Blagoveshchensk
Status: a city of regional subordination, the administrative center of the Amur Region.
It is situated in the south-west of Zeiklo-Bureinskaya plain, on the left bank of
the Amur River, at the inflow of the Zeiya River into it, 7985 km east of
Moscow. On the opposite side of the Amur River is the Heihe Chinese town.

Economy.
Blagoveshchensk is the center of metalworking and trade. There are gold-fields
in the north of the Amur Region.
Culture.
Science and research institutes: Amur Complex Institute of the Far
East, All-Russia Institute of SOI, Far East Regional Veterinary Institute,
Far East Institute of Project-Technological Mechanization and Farm Electrification,
Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Breath of Siberian Department of the
Russian Academy of Science, and etc. Amur Regional Meteorological Office.
Higher Educational Establishments: Medical Academy, Pedagogical
University, Far East State Agriculture University, Amur State University.
Blagoveshchensk has a rich historical and cultural heritage.
There are the oldest in the Far East:
- Amur Regional Legitimate Drama Theatre
- Amur Regional Local Lore Museum n.a. G.S. Novikov-Daursky,
which celebrated in 2006 its 105th anniversary
- Eparchial Specialized School for Girls (now the Pedagogical College № 1),
founded in 1901 under the Decree of the Holy Governing Synod
- Printing shop № 1, operating since 1962
- The first City Public Library, founded in 1859
- River Navigation School, operating since 1899
- Alexeev Gymnasium for Girls (now school № 4), operating since 1912
There are over 80 architectural monuments and monumental art on the territory of the city.
