It is situated on the Biya River, 163 km south-east of Barnaul.
Industry:
The plants of defence industry take the leading position as well as large enterprises
of food industry - Meat Canning Plant and Oil Extracting Factory.
Volume of the light industry enterprises is considerable: woodworking
plant, sewing, footwear and hosiery factories
Mechanical engineering is represented by boiler plant and plant for food industry equipment
production. From the other industries timber and woodworking are developed.
The largest enterprises are - Biysk Reloading-and-Processing and Veneer and Match
Integrated Plants, furniture production plants.
There is an Institute of Chemical and Energy Technology Problems of the Siberia
Department of the Russian Academy of Science.

Agriculture:
The mainstream of agriculture is a distant-pasture cattle tending, which gives unique
products - unossified antlers of Siberian stags and dappled deer. This is the main export products,
providing currency earnings (the main market demand comes from South-East Asia markets).
Native species of downy goat was bred - Altai mountain, with the high productivity
and yield of downy fibers. Traditional animal breeding branch is the drove breeding of
horses. Currently, the breeding of Altai horses for productive line is carring out.
