Arkhangelsk is situated in 1133 km. to the north of Moscow.
The town is on the bank of the Severnaya Dvina river, the estuary islands of
which form the bay "Dvinskaya" of the North Sea.
Economics
Arkhangelsk is the big scientific and industrial center in the north-west of
Russia. This region is rich with natural resources, there are diamonds deposits,
oil, bauxites.
7700 enterprises are registered in the city, 2200 of them are large- and midle-scale.
Enterprises of timber, wood chemical, paper and pulp (Solombalsky paper and pulp plant), fishery,
microbiological industries, mechanical engineering.
The leading role belongs to the tiber industry (over 40 % of the total output).
The main power and heat supplier - Arkhangelsk Heat Power Station.
Culture
